Your instructor will teach you about dive equipment, the science of diving, responsible diving practices and the environment. You will also learn many skills in the water with practice time for your safety and comfort; and complete your training with two days of open water dives.
As long as you are 10 years or older and in good physical condition, you can enroll in a Scuba Diver course at Oak Hill Scuba. Come in or call to register for the next available class. Grab your bathing suit and get ready to have FUN!
Oak Hill Scuba suggests that each student take advantage of the 10% discount to acquire their own basic equipment (mask, fins, snorkel and booties). However, for an additional fee, we can rent you the basic gear to use for your training class.
Students are required to purchase a training pack that includes the text book, work book, DVD, student folder, log book and dive tables, at least one week prior to the start of class. In some cases, we will allow students to share a training pack and buy a seperate folder, workbook and tables for the additional student.
Oak Hill Scuba provides each student with a BCD, regulator, tank and, if necessary, a wetsuit for use during the training course. All you need to bring is a swimsuit and a desire to learn about this exciting sport.
Oak Hill Scuba offers a variety of class settings. The Silver Class is our regularly scheduled group setting and takes two weekends to complete. The Gold class offers schedule flexibility for 2 or more people and the Platinum class features one on one training with the instructor. The Gold or Platinum class can be completed in as little as 3 days if necessary.
The classroom portion of your training happens right in our store. We have a clean, comfortable classroom used solely for training. For the pool, we utilize the facilities at West Austin Athletic Club, off of Bee Cave Rd. They have a heated Jr. olympic pool as well as a 12' deep diving well. Check out dives are done at either Lake Travis or Aquarena Springs.
These classes are scheduled on two consecutive weekends throughout the year. During the 1st weekend, you will have classroom sessions each morning and learn skills in the pool each afternoon. During the 2nd weekend, you will complete checkout dives on Saturday and Sunday. If you need more time to complete the training, make-up or additional sessions can be scheduled for an additional fee.
You bring the group and we'll get you trained. Great for friendly couples or families. With four or more people, you each pay the regular group price. We can conduct the training at your place or ours.
Gold classes offer more personal attention for 2 or more people. This type of class is great for couples or friends that want more personalized attention from the instructor, or people who have weekend commitments. This class allows you to schedule time and location classroom sessions, pool sessions and check out dives in a way that works with your schedule. If you like, we can conduct the classroom at your house and use the pool of your choice. In this setting, you can earn your certification in as little as 3 days.
The Platinum class combines the advantage of One On One learning with a flexible schedule. You and the instructor decide the time and location for each classroom setting, pool session and check out dives. Like the gold class, you can complete the class in as little as 3 days, or take the time that you need.
If you just cannot wait to dive into the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean, take one of us with you. We'll guide you through the classroom and pool sessions here in Austin and the complete the check out dives during your trip. In addition to the cost of the class, you will need to provide airfare and hotel accommodations for the instructor to join you at your destination.
The cost of scuba certification is extremely affordable compared to other sports. The total cost depends on the type of class you choose, and whether you buy or rent the basic gear. Each student is required to buy an education pack, however, in some cases, we will allow students to share an education pack along with an additional student folder, workbook and dive tables. Students are also responsible for park entry fees related to the check out dives.
Note: A $100.00 deposit is required to reserve a spot in a class. Students must pay for training prior to the start of the first class. Students are expected to have read the text book, watch the DVD and completed the work book prior to the first classroom session.
Once you become a certified diver, you are certified for life. However, if you go for some time with out diving, you may want to come back to us for a refresher class. These classes are booked on an individual basis and we'll work with you to make sure you are comfortable in the water before you leave on your next trip.
